Launch of the Think Tank to build the world's first decarbonized Factory for the production of interior components for the mobility industry

Launch of the Think Tank to build the world's first decarbonized Factory for the production of interior components for the mobility industry

15 February 2023
On February 14th and 15th 2023 the Think Tank for the "Decarbonized Factory for Future Mobile Interior" started in Aachen, Germany. New vehicle interiors are developed on a platform concept across all sectors by using the newest 3D Prinitng technologies: from ships to road and rail vehicles to aircraft, interiors are being rethought in a new sustainable way.

In addition to the interior, the focus is as well on the factory as a building for the production of these new products. It is seen as a blueprint for further "Decarb Factories", in which in the future not only the building will be operated more emission-free according to standardizable guideline, but also a CO2-neutral production of further products will take place, such as medical products and food.

Alongside aps, a number of renowned companies such as Boeing, Siemens, BMW, Bosch, Toyota, Thales, Meyer Werft or the Aachen-based rail company Talbot, as well as several research institutes, have come together in Aachen to conceptualize the "Decarb Factory" according to a "cross-industry" approach. This is a significant milestone for aps, as it marks the first step for us into the realm of aircraft parts production.

We are extremely excited to be part of such an innovative and sustainable project that, at its very core, builds on a forward-thinking vision for the future. The aim is to develop and establish the first "Decarb Factory" in North Rhine-Westphalia, Western Germany.  This mindset aligns perfectly with aps' philosophy, as our company is passionately advocating for the lasting future of aviation. For this reason, we particularly welcome the choice of factory location, as it fell on Mönchengladbach Airport (MGL), just a stone's throw from where aps is located. The choice was also very appropriate: at a time when flying is being rethought, the airport is also positioning itself as a center of innovation and a reallaboratory. In addition to its involvement in research on the topic of SkyCabs, MGL is leading the way as an innovation airport and "smart airport" in the major future topics of climate protection and digitalization.

The project is led by the Germany Emirati Institute and supported by the UAE and the state government of North Rhine-Westphalia in Germany.
